Welcome to the Ontario Coalition for Accountability (OntarioCfA).

Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin

The Ontario Coalition for Accountability is an advocacy organization in Ontario, Canada that represents the interests of over 1,900 Ontario residents annually, who have nowhere else to turn when systemic issues arise with Ontario’s “MUSH” sector. The “MUSH” sector is comprised of Municipalities, Universities, School boards, Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Long-Term Care facilities, Police, and Children’s Aid Societies.

If people truly want Accountability and Transparency, our success rides on YOUR participation. Each individual in each of the non NDP ridings; (53 Liberal (52 once they designate one for house speaker) and in 37 PC) must now begin building a positive relationship and support with MPP’s to ensure they attend and vote for the next Ombudsman Bill. Making positive contact with your MPP on a regular basis is how our movement conveys the message of a need for accountability to government.

Over the past few years, our movement has become a stronger presence in the Ontario legislature. By presenting well-researched submissions to the government, we are able to bring the interests of the children, families and accountability to government officials and other decision makers.

Prior to the introduction of Bill 131 last November, our group took the initiative to begin notifying other special interest groups fighting for accountability of the MUSH sector (Nursing Homes, Hospitals, Children’s Aid Societies, School Boards, Universities and Police) and got them engaged with the Ombudsman Bills and petitions. It’s a coalition we need to continue building as it greatly increases our exposure and touches many more lives.

What we urgently need are individuals who are reasonably good at public speaking and comfortable with having regular meetings with their MPP’s to represent their communities. As a grassroots movement we require the involvement of all individuals. Because of this we must always be mindful of our behavior, appearance and control the flow of information to ensure maximum results.

Sunday, May 20th, 2012 – Using our easy to use Ombudsman form, send your Ontario Member of the Provincial Parliament (MPP) the message to embrace accountability and demand they allow the Ombudsman to begin overseeing Municipalities, Universities, School Boards, Hospitals, Nursing Homes and Long-term Care facilities, Police, and Children’s Aid Societies.
Currently Ontario is the only province preventing whistle blowing and independent investigations of these publicly funded institutions.
